How Does it Work?

1. Choose Your Word: Come up with a word that represents who you are. It can be any word or symbol in any language. Take time to reflect on your values, dreams, beliefs, goals and identities.
2. Sign Up for a Photo Shoot: Head down to the Mathes front desk – there will be a sign up sheet displaying the date and time of an upcoming session. Sign up only if you can FOR SURE attend. (don’t worry if you can’t make a certain session, there will be many other opportunities)
3. Fill Out/Sign Info Sheet: Pick up the One Word Info sheet also at the front desk. FILL OUT COMPLETELY and be sure to sign the photo release portion.
4. Take Your Photo: Head down to the fifth floor lounge for your scheduled photo shoot. PLEASE be sure to bring your One Word Info sheet with you. Also, bring any props you would like in your photo. After your session is over, be sure to check the website to view your picture and to search for others!

Who are you in just one word?
Welcome to Mathes One Word, inspired by University of the Pacific's One Word Project. This is a student led and organized program in Mathes at Western Washington University. Our goal is to promote self-awareness education by encouraging residents to articulate the unique aspects about themselves and explore the diversity in our community. Residents will choose one word that represents who they are, briefly explain their choice, and participate in a visual representation of their word through the art of photography.
